Safely evacuate Dr. Nael Qtati from Gaza
Dear Professor Brady,
I am writing to you in a capacity of both urgency and deep concern for a member of our esteemed Imperial College alumni community, Dr. Nael Qtati, who is currently facing life-threatening circumstances in Gaza.
Dr. Qtati is a fully-qualified physician, a Chevening Scholar, and alumnus of the MSc program in Health Data Analytics & Machine Learning (2019/20) at the Imperial School of Public Health, and is in dire need of assistance. As you are undoubtedly aware, the situation in Gaza has escalated dramatically, with basic necessities such as electricity, water, and fuel being scarce due to the illegal and inhumane complete blockade. Dr. Qtati has been displaced from Gaza City to Khan Younis, and has subsequently been displaced further to Rafah, the southernmost city within the Gaza strip. He is currently still in Rafah and is under bombardment.
This situation bears a tragic resemblance to the recent loss of Dr. Maisara Alrayyes, a King's College London alumnus, who was killed in similar circumstances. Dr. Alrayyes, also a Chevening Scholar and a graduate of the MSc program in Women and Children’s Health at King’s, was a close friend to Dr. Qtati. His death is not just a loss to the academic community but also to the many lives he impacted through his work.
Imperial College London has always stood by its commitment to its alumni, as evidenced by your statement on the official website, which underscores the importance of maintaining strong relationships with the alumni community. This commitment is more than a promise; it is a testament to the values that Imperial upholds - values of compassion, support, and action in times of need.
Given the gravity of the situation and your esteemed position as a Professor of Medicine, I implore you to leverage your influence and resources to urgently contact the Foreign Office or relevant authorities to facilitate Dr. Qtati's safe evacuation from Gaza. This is a matter that demands immediate action, and your intervention could be pivotal in safeguarding the life of an individual who has the potential to contribute significantly to Imperial’s reputation as a champion of global health and peace.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.
